IHA celebrates its 100th anniversary with the slogan, “Advancing Health Care Together”.

Members lean on IHA for help handling the unchartered waters of the global COVID-19 pandemic.

Doug Leonard retires and is succeeded by IHA’s EVP, Brian Tabor who worked to preserve the Healthy Indiana Plan (HIP).
2016
After 30 years in the OneAmerica Tower, IHA moves to 500 N. Meridian in Indianapolis.
2015
The Healthy Indiana Plan expands through the approval of the HIP 2.0 waiver, eventually growing to serve more than 356,000 Hoosiers.
2014
IHA spearheads efforts to reduce early elective deliveries and pressure ulcers.
2012
The Supreme Court strikes down the Affordable Care Act’s mandatory Medicaid expansion, but Indiana continues to participate in the program.
2011
IHA celebrates its 90th anniversary with the slogan, "Stability Through Decades of Change.”
2007
Ken Stella retires after 23 years of leadership, and Douglas J. Leonard is elected as IHA’s new president.
2006
With IHA assistance, the Indiana Patient Safety Center is launched as part of a renewed focus on patient safety and quality of care.
2000
IHA goes digital with a website, digital documents, electronic data submission and dissemination, and email.
1991
IHA organizes the Concerned Hospital Advocates Information Network (CHAIN) to supplement its PAC, Friends of Indiana Hospitals.
1984
Kenneth G. Stella becomes IHA’s new president and moves its HQ to the OneAmerica Tower. Stella develops a strategic plan emphasizing public policy and new collaborative relationships.
1983
Medicare’s prospective fixed-rate payments lead to major change from fee-for-service medicine for Indiana hospitals.
1970s
IHA helps hospitals respond to the increasing burdens of regulation and advocacy.
1967
In response to hospitals' growing need for legal guidance, IHA appoints William S. Hall as general counsel.
1965
Hospitals look to IHA to help navigate dramatic changes in reimbursement due to the establishment of Medicare and Medicaid.
1960
IHA elects Elton “Tek” TeKolste as its first salaried president and helps create a national rate control plan under his leadership.
1944
Leading the launch of Indiana's first hospital insurance plan, Indiana Blue Cross, IHA helps the passage of a state hospital licensing law to improve care and safety throughout the state.
1938
The Great Depression highlights the need for public health insurance and IHA incorporates to meet growing demands.
1928
IHA elects Albert G. Hahn as its first president and addresses the challenge of providing patients with information about their hospitalizations.
1921
The Indiana Hospital Association forms with 34 charter members.
