What is an INspire Hospital?

In 2020, IHA launched the first INspire recognition for Indiana birthing hospitals to voluntarily pursue. Our goals were to encourage environments that allow for successful application of evidence-based practices and provide recognition to hospitals taking steps towards excellence in key drivers of maternal and infant health.That year, we celebrated 19 hospitals who earned the INspire Category of Excellence recognition, and 64 hospitals achieved the more rigorous INspire Hospital of Distinction.

Evaluating hospitals on criteria that lead to the greatest impact

The INspire “Category of Excellence” meets 1-3 of listed criteria below, while an INspire “Hospital of Distinction” meets 4-5, with infant safe sleep being required in both. In partnership with Indiana’s Governor and State Health Commissioner, the program is funded by the Indiana Department of Health’s Safety PIN grant (Protecting Indiana's Newborn).
