Indiana Hospital Association Raises Funds for IUPUI Scholarships

INDIANAPOLIS – The Indiana Hospital Association is hosting its eighth annual Stella Scholarship Golf Outing on June 2. Proceeds from the outing benefit the Stella Scholarship Fund, which awards $10,000 each to two Master of Health Administration students at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis annually.

The Stella Scholarship was established to honor Ken and Cindy Stella for their contributions to the work of Indiana hospitals. Last year, IHA raised more than $21,000 from the outing, and to date, $150,000 in scholarships have been awarded to health administration students.

“After retiring in 2007, my wife Cindy and I wanted a way to give back to the community and help support students who are pursuing a master’s degree in health administration. It’s rewarding to see their aspirations of helping serve hospitals and their communities, and we are grateful to IHA for establishing the scholarship,” said Ken Stella, IHA president emeritus.

On April 14, the Richard M. Fairbanks School for Public Health awarded IHA with the Spirit of Philanthropy Award for its dedication to the master’s of health administration program at Indiana University-Purdue University Indianapolis. The association has not only supported MHA students through the scholarship fund, but IHA also hosts interns, presents to MHA classes and provides networking opportunities at the annual membership meeting.

“The Indiana Hospital Association is dedicated not only to our current members and hospitals, but our future members,” said Doug Leonard, president at IHA. “That is what makes this scholarship so remarkable. It helps us prepare individuals who may become the future leaders of Indiana hospitals.”

The golf outing will take place at the Martinsville Golf Club, beginning at 11 a.m. ET with lunch, followed by a noon shotgun start. The cost to play is $150 per person and includes 18 holes, cart and lunch. If unable to participate, individuals or organizations can sponsor a hole for $400.
