IHA Delivers 9,000 Blood Pressure Cuffs to Hoosier Communities

Throughout the United States and here in Indiana, hypertensive complications remain a leading cause of death among pregnant and postpartum women.
By tapping into various resources and grant funds, the Indiana Hospital Association, in partnership with the Indiana Department of Health, is leading a collaborative effort to ensure more dependable blood pressure (BP) readings and techniques that may prevent fatal hypertensive complications.
IHA distributed 9,000 blood pressure cuffs (Cuff KitsTM) to 75 delivering facilities and 92 local health departments in Hoosier communities around the state. This was the largest distribution of its kind in the United States, according to the Preeclampsia Foundation, which provided the kits to IHA.

“We are proud to play a role in this collaborative effort with the Indiana Department of Health that will have an immediate and direct impact on maternal health in our state,” said Karin Kennedy, IHA Vice President of Quality and Safety.
The facilities that receive Cuff KitsTM can also choose to participate in a Preeclampsia Foundation research project to gather quantitative data on use of such devices for detecting and addressing hypertensive disorders. Indiana will benefit from the data-backed evidence that can be used to advocate with insurance providers and lawmakers for the issuing of similar devices as a standard of care.
